    Job Information

     

    The Data Governance Specialist is responsible for development, deployment, and enforcement of policies, standards, and procedures to ensure the proper use and maintenance of data at CSS. This position will partner with Business and IT Stewards to drive continuous improvement of our data management capabilities, practices, and outcomes to enhance both business performance and compliance levels over time through achievement of target information maturity model milestones.

     
    Key Job Functions

     

    • Perform the day-to-day activities for data governance and data management lifecycle functions to ensure alignment and compliance with data policies and standards.
    • Identify and integrate data governance and data management practices into existing business and IT processes, inclusive of process development, improvement, and adoption.
    • Lead the evaluation/development of automated and manual procedures in support of maturing data governance functions.
    • Ensure consistency in the adoption of data policies, standards, and processes.
    • Contribute to definition and delivery of data education and training programs.
    • Complete all necessary risk and control assessments and gather suitable evidence of effectiveness, as required in support of data governance function.
    • Establish, document, maintain, communicate, and enforce an effective data governance issue and change control process.
    • Define, implement, enhance, and maintain data management procedures, methodologies and tools, as required, in alignment with enterprise standards.
    • Champion data governance and educate the enterprise about data governance and stewardship.
    • Work with data stewards and appropriate parties to make sure that all data elements have accurate business definitions and required metadata is captured in alignment with CSS and industry standards.
    • Ensuring Data Owners classify their data / information appropriately.
    • Reporting on data governance performance.
    • Recommend solutions to resolve issues in data policies, data definitions, data usage, data quality and metrics.
    • Collaborate with stewards to assess, prioritize, and mitigate risks that may affect business operations, risk management, and regulatory compliance resulting from data management and/or quality deficiencies.

    QUALIFICATIONS

     

    Education   

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a data governance and/or data quality-related function.

    The successful candidate will need to possess the following relevant business background, technical expertise, academic training and personal attributes:

     

    • Strong knowledge of business process, data or information management, data flows, data relationships, data quality standards, processes and proficiency with data analysis and data quality tools.
    • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed with excellent organization, analytical and interpersonal skills, and consistently meet or exceed deadline deliverables.
    • Demonstrated experience in data governance and data management with a strong understanding of process re/design in either a business or IT role.
    • Strong communication skills to facilitate meetings and workshops to collect data, functional and technology requirements, document processes, data flows, gap analysis, and associated data to support data management/governance related efforts.
    • Knowledge and understanding of data standards and principles to drive best practices around data management activities and solutions.
    • Ability to effectively interface with cross-functional teams at varying levels to lead, support, mentor and communicate data governance standards, processes, overall data governance activities, and resolve issues.
    • Strong understanding of the importance and benefits of good data quality, and the ability to champion results across functions.
    • Ability to develop alliances throughout the company to mature data governance capabilities.
    • Ability to lead collaborative meetings which result in clear documented outcomes, a concrete understanding of meeting attendee performance/reliability, and ongoing management & follow-up for action items
    • Understand conceptual data and business process modeling and data life cycle / state transition concepts.
    • Experience developing and conducting training.
    • Acts with integrity and proactively seeks ways to ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures
    • Strong skills with Excel, SharePoint, database technology, and self-service business intelligence tools.
    • Experience using data profiling / quality tools with the ability to access databases with SQL or other methods.
    • Successful candidates will have a Data Governance and Stewardship Professional (DGSP) certification or equivalent, or will be expected to become certified.
    • Education will include at a minimum an undergraduate degree.
